>The Best Recipes contain Chocolate

>The Observer has a feature in which top chefs choose their top 50 recipes of all time. Gordon Ramsay has somewhat bizarrely chosen a recipe for Oxtail soup. Why would you do that when there’s chocolate in the world? Raymond Blanc is thankfully more in tune with my thoughts with this dreamy chocolate mousse.

This all got me thinking about my own favourite recipes.

I love Delia Smith’s fallen chocolate souffle with prunes in armagnac and creme fraiche.

For the sake of balance, I should also include some non chocolatey treats…

As far as cakes are concerned, Nigella does a really moist lemon and almond cake which is truly fabulous.

And if you want a delicious snack that can be whipped up in seconds, go for Nigella’s spiced pecans – which basically involves maple syrup, butter, pecans and cayenne pepper. Wonderful.

I’m hungry now – why did I start on this?

    >”For the sake of balance” … and people who are allergic to the crap.I don’t mind that there are SOME things with chocolate in them on restaurant menus, but more than half of the time I can’t have ANYTHING off the menu, not even an innocuous-sounding banana split or strawberry tart because some idiot has drizzled chocolate over it, or sprinkled cocoa powder over it.Chocolate on some things is fine, but EVERYTHING?

    >I have just read your recent posting and am now feeling very guilty. I tried to make a comment on it, but for some reason I couldn’t – sometimes I can on your site, and at other times I can’t see how.

    >Meh, you were just one of many (I wasn’t kidding about the number 14), and the problem is I have tasted chocolate, and know it’s as wonderful as everyone says, and I CRAVE it and I can’t have it and it drives me mad…I am DREADING easter. There is always a “reply” link on my posts, isn’t there?BTW, the Capcha on this comment? >I am not belittling your allergy cos I know how serious they are, but in a way I can empathise. My avoidance of Nestle in all its forms is purely political, but I absolutely love Kit Kats, Smarties and After Eights. In the days before I became enlightened, I went to Dublin and they made dark chocolate ones which were wonderful.

    >I boycott Nestle too, and the only thing that really bothers me is Cinnamon Toast Crunch/Cinnamon Grahams/Whatever they are calling them these days.I like Shreddies too, but Sainsbury’s do own brand ones.Shrubby is quite well trained to spot Good Chocolate and Evil Chocolate, though.
